Episode 12 (第12集), also known as "Chapter Twelve" (Chapter 拾貳), of Meteor Garden aired on June 28, 2001 in Taiwan. It was followed by episode thirteen on July 5. The episode also marks the first appearance of guest stars Angie Tang and Li Jie Sheng.
After being evicted, Dong Shan Cai begins living and working at Dao Ming Si's home. She later agrees to date Si on a trial basis. Their relationship is quickly tested when they go on a double date with her friend and her boyfriend.
Plot[]
Xi Men, Mei Zuo, and Hua Ze Lei come to visit Dong Shan Cai at her apartment now that she is alone. Dao Ming Feng makes an unexpected appearance. She suspects Shan Cai of being behind Dao Ming Si's and He Yuan Zi's engagement dissolving. The F3 attempt in vain to defend Shan Cai. Feng's insults eventually provoke her into calling Feng an "old hag" and demanding that she leaves. Afterwards, Shan Cai declares that she will not "concede defeat," before the F3 point out the gravity of the situation. The guys all promise to support her. That night, Feng orders her secretary to purchase all of the land around Shan Cai's home. The next morning, Si is excited after the F3 inform him about what Shan Cai said.
At home, Shan Cai reads a letter from her mother, informing her that her father's new job as a fisherman is not going so well. The landlord then arrives and asks her to vacate the premises within two hours. Shan Cai dejectedly packs some things and leaves. Shortly, Si finds her apartment empty. As he searches, he leaves several voicemails for her. Shan Cai finally listens to them just as Si walks up. He brings her to his home, despite her protests. Fortunately, they learn that his mother has gone to London. In the meantime, Feng has asked former head housekeeper Ms. Yu to come out of retirement. She allows Shan Cai to stay if she works there as a maid. Si is against it but Shan Cai stubbornly agrees.
The next morning, Ms. Yu appoints Shan Cai as Si's personal maid and tasks her with waking him up every morning. He ends up grabbing her in his sleep, startling her. She then hits him with a pillow until he lets go. At school, Si talks with Xi Men and Mei Zuo who encourage him to "grab [his] chance." He calls Shan Cai to say Si that he will stop by her room around midnight. Shan Cai is nervous all night and eventually decides to just leave. However, Si is waiting outside her door. He grabs her hand and takes her to a balcony. To her relief, all he wants is to show her a meteor shower. He gives her a necklace and then they kiss. Si asks her to date him. She is still unsure so he proposes a trial basis of two months.
In the morning, Shan Cai goes to wake up Si who has actually not slept all night. She agrees to be his girlfriend, saying "I'll give our relationship a good try." Si dances out of happiness when he thinks she has left, though she returns for her broom. Later, Chen Qing He talks about the new couple to Xiao You. He tries to convince her to help him split them up. Xiao You instead calls Shan Cai to suggest that they go on a double date with her and her new boyfriend, Zhong Ze. Shan Cai presents the idea of a "common folks' date" to Si. Xi Men thinks that a double date is juvenile, but Mei Zuo encourages Si to accept. Si, however, refuses and Shan Cai becomes angry that he will not "compromise for [her] sake".
The next Sunday, Shan Cai meets Xiao You and Zhong Ze at the amusement park to cancel the date. Si surprises her by showing up after all. Unfortunately, Si starts to become tense because of Zhong Ze, who makes fun of Si's ignorance of common things. Shan Cai becomes uncomfortable with the atmosphere and suggests that they split up for a bit. Two hours later, tensions rises again when they meet back up. Si then comes across Zhong Ze flirting with two girls. He offends Si by suggesting for him to cheat on Shan Cai. She and Xiao You witness Si punching Zhong Ze. Later, Shan Cai demands for Si to apologize but he refuses. Meanwhile, Xiao You worries over Zhong Ze not answering her phone calls.

- Episode twelve covers the end of the "Tsukasa's Fiancée, Shigeru Arc," the entire "Tsukushi as Maid to Domyoji Family Arc," and the beginning of the "A Couple for Two Months Arc" of the manga.
- Shan Cai's mother writes to her about their life in the fishing village.
- Shan Cai's and Si's fight from episode ten is replayed.
- Feng departs for London and returns in the following episode.
- Ms. Yu comes out of retirement after only retiring the year prior due to back pain.
