Susumu Kobayashi (小林 すすむ,Kobayashi Susumu, April 15, 1954 – May 16, 2012) was a Japanese comedian and actor from Ueda, Nagano. He was a member of the comedy troupe, Hip Up. Kobayashi is best known for his roles as Haruo Makino in the Hana Yori Dango series and Osamu Nakanishi in the Bayside Shakedown films. He passed away in 2012 after a short battle with cancer.

Personal life[]
In 1991, after appearing in a local Kansai program, Kobayashi received a letter from a woman who had watched him on television and claimed to have fallen in love with him at first sight. He began dating the woman, named Akiko (昭子,Akiko), and they eventually married. The two had no children.[1] At the time of Kobayashi's death, the couple had been married for seventeen years. Akiko published a book about their marriage a few months after his death.[2][3]
Death[]
After promoting Bayside Shakedown The Final, he was diagnosed with cancer and hospitalized in February 2012. He was given a life expectancy of two to three weeks.[4] Kobayashi passed away on May 16, 2012 at 22:45 due to gastric cancer and cirrhosis of the liver.[5] On June 30, 2012, an event was held in remembrance of Kobayashi. It was attended by two hundred of his his industry friends, including Hip Up member Toshiro Shimazaki, and actress Akiko Matsumoto.[6][7]
